On May 6, 2014, at the annual meeting of The CART Fund, Tsuneya Ikezu, MD, Ph.D., Professor Departments of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics and Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine was awarded a CART grant in the amount of $100,000.

Research Project

My funded research is focused on how the disease hallmark protein called tau starts to build up in nerve cells in a stereotypical manner. We hypothesize that brain immune cells secrete tiny particles containing the tau protein, and then they spread this toxic protein into other nerve cells. We will identify the tau spreading mechanism and invent a small molecule therapeutic using newly created mouse models.
