New Appointment To CART Fund Review Committee

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Julie A. Schneider as the newest member of The CART Fund Review Committee. Dr. Schneider is the The Deborah R. And Edgar D. Jannotta Presidential Professor of Pathology (Neuropathology) and Neurological Sciences, and Associate Director at the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center, at Rush University Medical Center.  She completed her Neurology residency at the University of Chicago and Neuropathology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta and is board certified in both specialties. INSPIRE Festival Donates $6,000 To CART

The INSPIRE festival was created to honor the life and legacy of Roger and Deane Ackerman. Roger practiced service above self for many years as a Rotarian, philanthropist, humanitarian, and supporter of the arts. The INSPIRE Festival was held April 4 – 7 in Sumter. In its’ inaugural year, the festival donated $24,000 of its proceeds equally to four organizations that were near and dear to Roger. Those were the CART Fund, Sumter County Art Gallery, Sumter County Museum, and Sumter Little Theatre. A new grassroots effort is underway to raise additional funds for The CART Fund. Rotarian John Whitwell of Augusta, GA, is passionate about helping find a cure for this disease and has enlisted his family and friends to help him “Smash Alzheimer’s.” Whitwell has created a website and encourages individuals or clubs to “smash” something – anything – and make a video to share on social media. Rotary Club of Fort Mill (SC) Raises $30,000 for The CART Fund!

The Rotary Club of Fort Mill recently presented Rotary District 7750 Governor Carol Burdette a check for $30K for Alzheimer’s Research Grants from proceeds from their 2018 gala to support The CART Fund. This club is helping District Governor Carol’s vision of donating $100K to The CART Fund this year. In fact, she promised to shave her head at the annual spring District Conference if together the 52 clubs in her District could raise $100K. With this contribution, District 7750 now stands at more than $120K with a few more months to go! The Rotary Club of Murphy (NC-D7670) recently collected change from members and the community and scheduled a “Coin Dump” at one of their regular meetings. The result was more than $1,100 collected for The CART Fund. They challenge other Rotary clubs to do the same and post the results using #CARTFundCoinDump on social media.
